5 reasons why you should experience the Barranco del Infierno in Adeje

If you are looking for an authentic experience in Tenerife South, you can’t miss the Barranco del Infierno. We have already been there several times and it always leaves us with the feeling of having discovered a magical corner of the island. Here we share with you the 5 strong points that make this excursion a must:

1. A unique trail in a Protected Natural Area

The Barranco del Infierno is part of a Special Nature Reserve. Its abrupt beauty, vertical walls and changing vegetation make us feel like we are entering a world apart. Walking through this protected environment is a real privilege that connects us with the wildest nature in the south of Tenerife.

2. The only natural waterfall on the island

Yes, you read that right. At the end of the trail awaits the only natural waterfall in Tenerife accessible to the public. The sound of the water falling among the rocks and the freshness of the surroundings make this final point a spectacular reward after the walk.

3. Ideal for hikers of all levels

The trail is of medium-low difficulty, which makes it perfect for couples, friends or even teenagers. All you need is suitable footwear and a desire to explore. There are 6.5 km (round trip) that can be completed in about 3.5 hours, enjoying every step.

4. Fauna and flora endemic to the Canary Islands

Along the route, we come across cactus, tabaibas, dragon trees, Canary Island pines and, if we are lucky, we can see birds such as the kestrel, the long-eared owl or the brown partridge. It is a real natural spectacle for those of us who love the biodiversity of our islands.

5. Panoramic views over the south of Tenerife

From the start of the trail, situated 350 metres above sea level, the views are breathtaking. Natural viewpoints allow us to contemplate the ocean, the coast of Adeje and, on clear days, even La Gomera. A perfect setting for taking photos and making unforgettable memories.
